Management technologies for E-commerce and E-business applications

ThisvolumeoftheLectureNotesinComputerScienceseriescontainsallthe papersacceptedforpresentationatthe13thIFIP/IEEEInternationalWorkshop onDistributedSystems:OperationsandManagement(DSOM2002),whichwas heldattheUniversityofMontreal,Canada,from21to23October2002. DSOM2002wasthethirteenthworkshopinaseriesofannualworkshopsand itfollowsinthefootstepsofhighlysuccessfulpreviousmeetings,themostrecent ofwhichwereheldinNancy,France(DSOM01),Austin,USA(DSOM00),- rich,Switzerland(DSOM99),Delaware,USA(DSOM98),andSydney,Aust- lia(DSOM97). ThegoaloftheDSOMworkshopsistobringtogetherresearchers intheareasofnetwork,systems,andservicesmanagement,frombothindustry andacademia,todiscussrecentadvancesandfosterfuturegrowthinthis?eld. Incontrasttothelargermanagementsymposia,suchasIM(IntegratedMa- gement)andNOMS(NetworkOperationsandManagementSymposium),the DSOMworkshopsareorganizedassingle-trackprogramsinordertostimulate interactionamongparticipants.^ ThefocusofDSOM2002is“Makinge-commerceande-businessapplications successfulthroughmanagement. ”Ase-commerceande-businessapplications growtobeaprominentpartofday-to-daybusiness,managementtechnologies thatsupportthemgaininimportance. Thepaperspresentedattheworkshop addresstheunderlyingtechnologiesthatarekeytothesuccessofe-commerce ande-businessapplications,assuringqualityofservice,securityandtrust,e- to-endservicemanagement,andubiquity. Thisyearwewerefortunatetoreceive40high-qualitypapersfrom15co- tries,ofwhich16wereselectedforthe5technicalsessions. Thetechnicalsessions coveredthetopics“ManagingQualityofService,”“MeasuringQualityofS- vice,”“ServiceArchictures,”“PolicyandProcess,”and“FaultAnalysis. ”This yearwealsoincludedintheprogramapanelsessiontitled“EnforcingQuality: MythorReality?,”toprovideaforumforopendiscussionofthestate-of-the-art andrequirementsforquality-of-servicecon?guration,monitoring,andenfor- ment.^ Thisworkshopowesitssuccesstoallthemembersofthetechnicalprogram committee,whodidanexcellentjobofencouragingtheircolleaguesinthe?eld tosubmithigh-qualitypapers,andwhodevotedalotoftheirtimetohelpcreate anoutstandingtechnicalprogram.
