Unreal Engine 1 (UE1, originally marketed simply as Unreal Engine) is the inaugural release in Epic Games’ engine lineup, developed by founder Tim Sweeney beginning in 1995. It debuted in May 1998 bundled with the first build of the game Unreal (build 100) and quickly became one of the first commercial middleware solutions licensed by third-party studios.
